Small D-II School Suspends (Not Fires) Coach for Hitting Player

PHILADELPHIA - The Holy Family University men’s basketball coach has been suspended after a player filed a police report because he claims he was assaulted during a January practice, and Fox 29 has obtained the shocking footage to back up that player’s claim.
Matt Kravchuk, a sophomore at the school in Philadelphia, can be seen getting knocked to the ground and later being the target of an obscenity-filled tirade from coach John O’Connor.
The university has said O’Connor was suspended Thursday pending the outcome of an investigation.
A spokesperson said they were aware that a police report had been filed, and said the university was also looking into the matter. However, because it was a legal matter that involved a personnel issue, they couldn’t comment further.
Kravchuk’s attorney, Jack Cohen, however, questioned why it took university officials until Thursday to suspend the coach when the incident happened on Jan. 25.
Kravchuk said the university had said they would discipline O’Connor, but had given him few details prior to Thursday's suspension.
